Luthier Cory Gilmore

What in the world is a luthier?

A luthier, from the French word lute, is someone who makes stringed instruments such as lutes, guitars or violins...
...and Cory is a person who makes guitars.  He is a luthier.

We were thrilled to see Cory and his family- his wife, who is my niece Jackie, and daughters, Talia and Ashlee during Spring Break.

We heard about Cory's journey over the past year.  He has been unable to work for more than a year now because of a heart condition which is being stringently monitored.  He has been creatively using this mandatory time-off work to develop this fine art of creating one-of-a-kind guitars, while trusting the Lord to see Him through.

Cory  has always had a love for music and a real gift for it.  He loves to play the bass...but that isn't enough for him.  He is making these amazing instruments!  Yes, he fashioned this 4-string bass, dubbed Tsunami (name of his company)"Tempest Bass", with his own hands after visualizing it in his mind.  Cory creatively worked out this unique design, laminating at least three different kinds of woods into the instrument: Purple heart, Broadleaf Maple- which gives the front its beautiful design and Bubinga, all hard and quite exotic woods.

Cory insisted on having his picture taken with "Big Al".  He reminded us that he had shown us his first bass, built a number of years ago and that he had a picture of the two of them taken at that time while showcasing his first bass guitar.   Al was very pleased to oblige.

Now his question is: "...should I build another bass or go for an acoustic guitar?" I'm hoping to get a picture of his next masterpiece after its done!  Is there a buyer yet?
