The Watchmen Four

Al has been blessed to be part of a men's Gospel quartet for almost four years now, The Watchmen Four.  This group of men has been invited to sing at dozens of functions, from church, para-church to community service events,  delighting hundreds of people.   Even younger folk who haven't grown up in the Gospel singing tradition, which is still so near and dear to not only our hearts, but to the hearts of many others, have expressed their appreciation of it.  Just last night Al was so tickled when a young elementary school-aged girl came to him at the reception after a concert and enthusiastically told him that she just loved their singing!  This is so rewarding for the fellows who have grown to enjoy what they do with a passion and a deep commitment to the Lord to serve Him faithfully in this capacity.

Last night these gentlemen sang at the "Right to Life" benefit concert in Abbotsford organized by Calvin Dyck.  Here is what they looked like just before the concert:

Not only are these men handsome but they are talented, hard-working, fun-loving and committed to honoring the Lord through their ministry in song.  David arranges all their music and Jim has created their great website at:

The Watchmen Four have memorized all of their songs - dozens of them, with an extensive, highly entertaining Christmas component as well, all fine-tuned to a high level of performance.

The Lighthouse
first cd

The Watchmen Four are on their second printing of this cd.

What a Saviour
second cd

The Watchmen Four have been served by two gifted and accomplished pianists: Phyllis Froese for the first cd and Nathan Bosch for the second.

These gentlemen continue a rigorous schedule: just this week-end they sang Friday night, and will present two songs at the three services at Northview Community Church.  Next Friday, April 16,  they will sing at a luncheon for Northview Seniors.

Their formal release of the second cd, What a Saviour, will happen on Friday, April 23 at Northview Church.  This is a benefit concert for Cyrus Centre, a facility for disadvantaged and homeless teens.  There is no charge for admission but an opportunity will be given to donate to the Cyrus Centre.

Along with these talented men will be another local group, Father's Daughter.  this group is composed of the talented Fast family - Ed Fast our local MP, being the father of these lovely and talented young ladies, accompanies them on the keyboard.

The Freedom Singers, always a popular group from Kelowna will make up the trio of artists.  The young men in this group fled Romania in about 1999.  They miraculously escaped detection, surviving harrowing experiences even before they entered a loaded container full of tiles to be clandestinely taken somewhere in the world, away from Italy to where they had initially escaped.  In a miraculous, spell-binding way, the Lord protected them from almost certain death in the container stowed away in the hull of a huge ocean-going vessel.  What a great surprise and relief for them when they realized they were on a "friendly" ship getting ready to dock in Canada.   Theirs is a riveting story making their songs compelling and convincing.

Plan to attend what will prove to be a wonderful evening at Northview Church on Friday, April 23, 2010.

On the lighter side:

Just last week Al played the new cd in the van for Jared, our five-year old grandson.  After an exciting afternoon, picking up Megan and Nathan from their school and coming back to our place for the "tea party" and playtime outside, it was time for him to return home.  Jared asked, "Papa, could you please put on your music again?"  Of course "Papa" was more than delighted to comply.  As they were driving along and into the second song, "Papa" asked, "So Jared, how do you like it?"  Looking over his shoulder Al got the answer as his eyes caught the sight of a little nodding head and the sounds of contented zzzzzzzz's!

It is so delightful to keep up with your lives through your blog. We also enjoy the new CD, but as yet it has not put us to sleep. :)
