~ Flashback... Christmas past ~
The way we were in 1946 on my family's first Christmas photo. Our family had moved to Winkler during the previous summer and were living in the house where Dad's business, Winkler Photo Studio, was located.* Here we are in the living room:
L-R: Herta, 2 year-old Ingrid, Mom with 2 month-old Helmut, Erica, Alice, Hedy -two more brothers would follow within four years.
~just one ornament missing from this set of twelve still in their original box which my Mom must have bought many years ago ~
~and stamped on the side "Made in Enastarn (sic) Germany" with the price sticker reading a mere .67 or Re (retail ?) 89
...scarves, ever so popular still today, were a necessity during those cold winter months. This lovely plaid scarf was a precious Christmas present I gratefully received when I was about ten or eleven years old....so that makes this scarf pretty old today! The idea was to wear the scarf over your head and flip the two ends back over your shoulders. We'd trudge along the crunchy snow-filled streets arm and arm with our best friend - pure, joyous growing-up years in a beautiful little prairie town, where we never had to lock our doors.

And as that little girl was growing up in Winkler, a handsome young lad about 450 miles directly West of our little town was also growing up in his little farming community of Kelstern, Saskatchewan. He too was very excited about his Christmas present......old toy trains, little toy tracks....
...and a new argyle sweater...
...wait a minute...
...that's not that little boy...this is Jared, that other young boy's handsome, almost 6 year-old grandson sporting his Grandpa's old, prize argyle sweater...
...ssshhh - let's surprise Grandpa....
...so now about 65 Christmases later we re-enact the scene
...old toy trains, little toy tracks....
Incidentally, "Old Toy Trains" was one of Jared's Christmas songs which he sang along with his Kindergarten class at his Christmas concert this year.

What handsome fellows....hard to believe that sweater has survived all these years as I just bought one for Jar that has yet to be worn but is already starting to unravel. Thanks a lot Gap, or maybe I should say, way to go old burlap feeling sweaters!
